Highest Growth Rate

ACCORDING TO the latest figures, Uganda probably has the highest population growth rate in Africa. Every woman has an average 6.9 children in her lifetime, compared to 4.5 in Kenya. By the year 2025, Uganda's population will reach 55 million people. Uganda will need more than double the schools, houses, hospitals and infrastructure that already exist just to maintain the existing standards of social services. If we want to improve them, then the social and physical infrastructure will need to be tripled or quadrupled. This is not easily achievable. It would be more sensible for government to try and bring the growth rate down to the Kenyan level so that the gains of economic growth are not squandered on unlimited population growth. Ends
