Uganda reaffirmed its dominance in the Eastern Africa region by winning the 2025 FIM Central Africa Motocross Championship (FIM CAC), securing its 12th regional crown.

The second leg of the championship was staged over the weekend at Naivasha, Kenya, where Uganda swept all individual titles and claimed the overall championship trophy.

The event, marking the 20th edition of the FIM CAC, saw Uganda not only collect the most accolades but also register the highest number of participants, outnumbering rivals Tanzania and hosts Kenya.

Team captain Fatuh Kiggundu credited the victory to teamwork and rider dedication.

“We arrived here when the track was not yet finished for us to train, but on Saturday morning we practiced and then took on our opponents with the agenda of defending our title, which we did,” Kiggundu said. “We are now returning home to train hard because the first leg is likely to be held in February, and defending this title remains our main focus.”

Ugandan riders dominated across all categories. Ethan Musede emerged champion in the 65cc class, with his brother Jude Kyle Musede taking silver. In the 50cc class, Abigail Katende clinched gold, Kenya’s Jayden Ozzie finished second, and Uganda’s Abigail Muwanguzi secured bronze.

The 85cc category was another Ugandan affair, with Miguel Katende and his sibling Jonathan Katende winning gold and silver respectively, while Ramathan Mubiru claimed bronze. In MX125cc, Waleed Omar dethroned teammate Milton Akaaki, last year’s champion, to take the title.

The MX1 category saw Ismail Mukiibi crowned champion, Hashim Sserwada win silver, and Nagibu Mutebi secure bronze. In the women’s category, Swansi Sambu took gold, Agnes Nakanwagi silver, and Sasha Nagaddya bronze.

The two-day competition unfolded on a bumpy but technical track constructed just a day before the races.

The event was preceded by a three-day FIM medical training program, during which Uganda was commended for advancing athlete safety and anti-doping measures. Uganda’s medical team was represented by Dr. Derrick Oketch of the FMU medical commission.

Looking ahead, FIM has proposed four legs for the 2026 FIM CAC, with Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, and Rwanda each set to host one round.

The expanded calendar will require a bigger budget, prompting calls for the Ugandan government to increase motorsport funding from sh3 billion to at least sh5 billion.
