Daniel Kaluuya returns to the big screen after a three-year break

Oscar-winning British actor Daniel Kaluuya is finally making his return to live-action films after spending nearly three years away from the screen.

Kaluuya, 37, won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2021 for his acclaimed performance in Judas and the Black Messiah. Since then, his only live-action film appearance has been in Jordan Peele's 2022 sci-fi horror hit Nope.

Now, the first trailer for his latest film, Misty Green, has been released. Directed by comedian and filmmaker Chris Rock, the movie stars Rosalind Eleazar as a celebrated actress battling personal struggles, with Kaluuya also featuring in the cast.

The trailer comes about a year after reports emerged that Kaluuya had signed with leading Hollywood talent agency WME, signalling a fresh chapter in his career.

Although he has been absent from live-action roles, Kaluuya has remained active in the entertainment industry. He voiced Hobie Brown (Spider-Punk) in the animated blockbuster Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and narrated the Arsenal Football Club documentary series All or Nothing.

In 2024, he also co-wrote, produced and co-directed the British dystopian drama The Kitchen, although he did not appear on screen. A year earlier, he was appointed associate artistic director at London's Roundhouse arts venue.

Following Misty Green, which is expected to hit cinemas later this year, Kaluuya will star in the thriller Hotel Hotel Hotel Hotel, directed by Michael Shanks, and will once again voice Spider-Punk in the next Spider-Verse film.

Kaluuya first gained recognition through the British teen drama Skins before becoming one of Hollywood's most respected actors. He is best known for standout performances in Get Out, Black Panther, Widows and Judas and the Black Messiah.
