KAMPALA - Trading at the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) picked up in the week ending September 5, with turnover climbing to sh189.71m, according to a market report by Crested Capital.
The figure was up from sh142.35m recorded the previous week.
Seven counters registered activity. MTN Uganda dominated trading with sh90.27m from 321,418 shares, followed by Bank of Baroda, which posted sh64.45m from 1.53m shares.
Airtel Uganda moved sh21.50m from 268,634 shares, while Stanbic Holdings traded sh8.22m from 143,024 shares. dfcu Limited posted sh2.99m from 11,450 shares, Quality Chemicals Limited handled sh1.65m from 14,000 shares, and NIC Holdings registered sh0.63m from 126,500 shares.
On price movements, Stanbic recorded the sharpest gain among local counters, rising 1.77% to sh57.50.
Quality Chemicals followed with a 1.72% increase to sh118. MTN rose 1.04% to sh284.05, dfcu edged up 0.89% to sh261, and Airtel added 0.12% to sh80.10. Baroda and NIC Holdings were unchanged at sh42 and sh5 respectively.
Among cross-listed counters, Jubilee Holdings jumped 8.40% to sh8,187.12, while East African Breweries rose 3.25% to sh6,116.50. Kenya Airways led the week’s losers, dropping 8.58% to sh100.53.
Centum fell 2.33% to sh369.17, while Equity Bank and KCB each slipped 0.89% to sh1,525.72 and sh1,464.42.
Nation Media Group eased by 0.14% to sh362.36.
The USE All Share Index edged up 0.53% to close at 1,441.54. The Local Companies Index also gained, adding 0.84% to 133.73.
