Dollar gains slightly against shilling on Monday

The US dollar strengthened against the Ugandan shilling on Monday, opening the week at 3558/3568 and closing firmer at 3568/3578. 

Early in the session, the currency pair touched highs of 3578/3588, driven by strong demand from the offshore entities and the energy sector.

Traders said the gain attracted inflows from commodity-related clients during the trading session. The shilling has so far appreciated by about 1.3% since the start of January 2026.

Money market liquidity remained tight, according to Absa report, with interbank overnight and one‑week rates averaging 10.65% and 10.92%, respectively.
