THE top four runners in all categories at last weekend’s national cross-country championships will form the foundation of Uganda’s team to the world championships due in Poland on March 28.

The runners picked are, senior men Moses Kipsiro, James Kibet, Stephen Kiprotich and Geoffrey Kusuro, junior men: Moses Kibet, Kibet Soyikwa, Timothy Toroitich and James Araptach.
On the senior women are Adero Nyakisi, Janet Achola, Emily Chebet and Catherine Webombesa, and junior women Annet Negesa, Viola Chemos, Rebecca Cheptegei and Mercy Chelangat.

It will be this team that will compete in the Eastern Africa Cross Country championships that is due in Nairobi February 28, and the top performers will be selected to make the final team to the world event.

Faustin Kiwa, the head of the federation’s technical committee yesterday confirmed the team has been summoned for training and are waiting for the other training partners.

“Our job as technical team is to name the team to start training and it is the finance department to decide how many teams represent the country at the world championships,” said Kiwa.
“We will name some more promising stars ahead of the training.”

The technical committee will meet later this week to name the other members who will join the top four. They will also name the training venue, most likely in Kapchorwa.
