THE KIBAALE Grade One Magistrates’ court has granted bail to Immaculate Tumarwe, 35, a midwife attached to Kibaale Health Centre IV charged with negligence of duty and causing death of a child.

The court, presided over by Bensom Ssemondo, on Wednesday granted Tumarwe a sh500,000 cash bail, while each of her three sureties were bonded sh1m, not cash.

Prosecution told court that on the night of January 12, Justus Byekwaso, a resident of Katebe in Mataale sub-county, escorted his daughter, only identified as Nawada, to deliver at Kibaale Health Centre.

Byekwaso said when Tumarwe was called to attend to Nawada, she refused, saying she would attend to her in the morning.
